In a bid to bolster regional security, Greek Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis and Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci met in Athens to discuss collaborative efforts against cross-border crime. This meeting, held at Greece’s Ministry of Citizen Protection, follows the Greece–Türkiye Supreme Cooperation Council’s earlier discussions in Ankara.

The bilateral talks focused on a range of pressing issues, including organized crime, terrorism, extremism, human trafficking, and drug smuggling. A significant concern raised by Chrysochoidis pertained to the presence of Turkish nationals allegedly linked to criminal activities within Greece. He underscored the necessity of enhanced information sharing and operational coordination between the two nations’ security agencies.

Ciftci expressed appreciation for the current level of cooperation and indicated Turkey’s willingness to broaden joint efforts, especially in combatting human trafficking networks. Both ministers recognized the importance of disrupting criminal organizations that exploit undocumented migrants and engage in money laundering linked to illegal operations.

This meeting signifies a continued commitment from both Greece and Türkiye to address mutual security challenges, despite their historical differences. By focusing on shared threats, the two countries aim to strengthen their bilateral ties and improve regional security coordination.
