Hungary celebrated significant success at the U20 World Wrestling Championships in Bratislava, capturing three medals in Greco-Roman wrestling. László Koppány stood out by securing a silver medal in the 130kg category. His path to the final was marked by victories over competitors from China, Kazakhstan, Georgia, and Egypt. However, Koppány ultimately fell short in the gold-medal match, losing 8–0 to Russia’s reigning world and European champion, Ali Ilyasov.
In the 77kg category, Zalán Toplak from Ferencváros made his mark by clinching a bronze medal. Entering the repechage round, Toplak delivered a commanding performance, defeating Georgia’s Giorgi Gogelashvili 10–2 to claim his first World Championship medal. His victory added to Hungary’s medal tally, reflecting a promising future in his wrestling career.
Petro Zsitovoz also contributed to Hungary’s success by earning a bronze medal in the 67kg category. Despite facing an early setback, Zsitovoz mounted an impressive comeback to defeat Egypt’s U23 world champion Mohamed Abdelrehim with an 11–3 scoreline in the placement match. His resilience in overcoming the initial deficit demonstrated his skill and determination on the international stage.
The U20 World Wrestling Championships commenced with Greco-Roman wrestling, where Hungary fielded eight athletes in this discipline.
