Lidl Hungary has embarked on a significant expansion with the launch of a new logistics center in Kiskunfélegyháza, following an investment of nearly 60 billion forints, equivalent to approximately €162 million. This facility now stands as the largest warehouse for the retailer in Hungary, poised to enhance the supply chain for around 70 stores across the region. The new center spans over 83,000 square meters and promises to bolster the local economy by creating over 400 jobs, with plans to recruit an additional 50 employees in the upcoming months.
The logistics center is equipped with advanced features, including 194 loading docks and a refrigerated section covering 24,000 square meters. Emphasizing sustainability, the facility incorporates energy-efficient technologies such as a 9,000-square-meter solar installation on the rooftop. Additionally, it utilizes waste heat from the refrigeration system for underfloor heating, aligning with Lidl’s commitment to environmentally friendly operations. Surrounding the site is a 10,000-square-meter area dedicated to fostering biodiversity.
With an expected output of around 4,500 pallets of goods daily, the center aims to significantly enhance Lidl’s supply network across Hungary. This development is integral to Lidl’s strategy to strengthen its presence and operational efficiency in the country, where it currently runs 220 stores. A noteworthy aspect of Lidl’s operations in Hungary is its commitment to local sourcing, with nearly 60% of its products originating from Hungarian suppliers.
