Donald Trump has offered a “fair and transparent” solution to the feud between Egypt and Ethiopia. The former President reached out to Cairo with a proposal to resume U.S. mediation regarding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, aiming to end the deadlock over the Nile’s waters.
The core of Trump’s plan is predictability. He argues that a “successful approach” must guarantee “predictable water releases” for Egypt, ensuring the country can plan for droughts. In exchange, Ethiopia would be free to generate the “substantial amount of electricity” the dam was built to provide.
