by admin477351

Germany is exploring future defense collaboration with Greece, focusing on the construction of modern submarines. During a meeting at the Crete Firing Range, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias discussed the potential cooperation, with an emphasis on the Type 212 CD submarines. Pistorius highlighted Greece as a reliable partner, suggesting that the submarine construction could take place locally in Greece.

The Hellenic Navy is planning to consider a new submarine program post-2030, with further discussions anticipated following Greece’s national elections in 2027. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen defense ties between the two countries.

Dendias underscored Greece’s commitment to bolstering military relations with Germany through various means, including joint military training, enhanced operational coordination, hosting German forces, and acquiring compatible military systems. The discussions also covered cooperation in the Kosovo Force (KFOR), pilot training in Kalamata, and Greece’s interest in acquiring IRIS-T SLS air defense missiles.

The talks signify a growing effort from both nations to expand their defense collaboration, exploring avenues for joint military production and training. This partnership is seen as a step towards enhancing regional security and operational efficiency.
